Ruhe in Frieden

In 1967, a common bond brought together 14 men with a plan that started from nothing more than the love of the German folk and brass music of their homeland. One of those men was Leo "Opa" Hacker.

Leo was a mainstay and driving force within the Foehrer for many, many years. His love for music was passed on from generation to generation and he made that music with his son Tom and grandson Kyle.

Leo passed away on October 2nd. Our condolences and sympathies go out to the entire Hacker family.

To quote a dear friend of the band: "May he rest in peace and find his place in heaven's orchestra."

Our history

The musicians

The musicians

In 1967, a common bond brought together 14 men with a plan that started from nothing more than the love of the German folk and brass music of their homeland.  These men wanted to continue playing the music and to keep alive the German musical tradition that they enjoyed in Germany; that first meeting lead to the formation of the Foehrer Musik Freunde.

Since that time our members have dedicated themselves to keeping that sound alive.  We are proud to say that many of these original musicians are still playing with the band today.  Our current group of musicians comes from various nationalities and spans three generations.   We all share the same love for the music and its traditions.

It is with great pride that we have spread our Gemütlichkeit at many festivals in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Florida and Germany.
