It is with great sadness that we mourn the passing our dear friend and band member Vinny Scire. He played for the love of the music and never hesitated to pick up another part to fill in if someone was missing. His sense of humor and his antics always provided a welcome smile and laugh.
Vinny was a clarinet player and a long time member of the Musik Freunde as well as a founding member of the Pilsner Brass Band. He was very active locally, playing for many different groups at festivals and parades across Long Island. In our group he was usually referred to as "Der andere Vinny" (the other Vinny) because there were two Vinny's in the band He will be greatly missed.
Vinny succumbed to COVID 19 virus on April 21.
Please keep him your thoughts and prayers. May he Rest in Peace.
Hans Peter Ganzel, or simply Peter to many of us, has retired from the Foehrer Musik Freunde. Peter and his wife Resi now reside in Massachusetts.
As the main Tuba player for most of our years, Peter provided the OOM behind everyone else's PAH. It is hard to recall a time when he wasn't providing the downbeat. Peter continued playing with the Musik Freunde up to and including our most recent season - an amazing 52 years.
It goes without saying that, without Hans Peter, the Foehrer Musik Fruende may not be in existence. Peter was one of the founding members of the Band in 1967. Often referred to as the True Original he was a driving force in establishing the group. He was the groups biggest advocate and played a key role in recruiting many future members. Never was there a time when he didn't do something for the band - shuttling around the sound equipment and stands, building cases, maintaining our history, regaling us with his stories, and creating videos to name just a few.
Hans Peter you will be missed and we all wish you well on the next phase of your life.

In 1967, a common bond brought together 14 men with a plan that started from nothing more than the love of the German folk and brass music of their homeland. These men wanted to continue playing the music and to keep alive the German musical tradition that they enjoyed in Germany; that first meeting lead to the formation of the Foehrer Musik Freunde.
Since that time our members have dedicated themselves to keeping that sound alive. We are proud to say that many of these original musicians are still playing with the band today. Our current group of musicians comes from various nationalities and spans three generations. We all share the same love for the music and its traditions.
It is with great pride that we have spread our Gemütlichkeit at many festivals in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Florida and Germany.
Keeping brass band music (Blasmusik) alive....one fest at a time!
