In 1967, a common bond brought together 14 men with a plan that started from nothing more than the love of the German folk and brass music of their homeland. These men wanted to continue playing the music and to keep alive the German musical tradition that they enjoyed in Germany; that first meeting lead to the formation of the Foehrer Musik Freunde.
Since that time our members have dedicated themselves to keeping that sound alive. We are proud to say that many of these original musicians are still playing with the band today. Our current group of musicians comes from various nationalities and spans three generations. We all share the same love for the music and its traditions.
It is with great pride that we have spread our Gemütlichkeit at many festivals in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Florida and Germany.
Keeping brass band music (Blasmusik) alive....one fest at a time!
On October 12th the Foehrer Musik Feunde had the privilege of performing at the birthday party of our own Franzl Kokash. His party was held at the Kolping Center in Glendale, NY. and was attended by family and friends from near and far.
It was our honor to not only attend the party, but perform for Franzl and his guests. Here our own Harald Lorenzen sings one of Franzl's favorites while the attending members played along.
The band members in attendance all had a wonderful time celebrating Franzl's 90th birthday with him (that's Franzl seated on the left). And we certainly hope that his family and other guests enjoyed our tribute to him.
Maybe one of his presents included new reeds for his clarinet in preparation for the quickly approaching 2020 season.
Happy birthday Franzl!
